CEO office reviews electoral roll revision in Odisha’s Kotia, stresses error-free voters’ list
Bhubaneswar, July 28: A senior official from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha, on Tuesday reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the electoral roll in the Kotia region of Koraput district, directing officials to ensure a transparent, accurate and error-free voter list ahead of future elections.
Jitendra Kumar Patra, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Odisha, visited the border region to assess the progress of the claims and objections phase of the electoral roll revision exercise. During the visit, he inspected several polling stations and reviewed the applications received for inclusion, deletion and correction of names in the electoral roll.
Patra held detailed discussions with election officials, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other field-level personnel to evaluate the pace and quality of the revision process. He was briefed on the number of claims and objections received so far, their verification status, and the steps being taken to ensure their timely disposal.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining a credible and updated electoral roll, the Deputy Secretary instructed officials to give the highest priority to preparing a clean, impartial and error-free voters' list. He directed that every claim and objection should be verified thoroughly and disposed of strictly in accordance with the prescribed Election Commission guidelines within the stipulated timeframe.
He also stressed that no eligible voter should face inconvenience or be deprived of the opportunity to be included in the electoral roll due to procedural lapses. Officials were asked to ensure that the revision exercise remains transparent, fair and citizen-friendly.
Senior officials from the district administration and the election department accompanied Patra during the inspection and presented a detailed report on the progress of the SIR-2026 exercise in the Kotia region, including the status of pending applications and verification work. The review is aimed at ensuring a reliable electoral roll and strengthening the integrity of the electoral process in the region.
