Bhubaneswar, July 22: Odisha reported a fresh COVID-19 case on Wednesday after a woman from Berhampur tested positive for the virus. Health authorities, however, assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, stating that the patient is in stable condition and is receiving appropriate medical care at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur.

The woman has been admitted to the hospital's dedicated isolation ward, where she is under continuous medical observation. Doctors said her condition remains stable and she is responding well to treatment.

Confirming the development, MKCG Medical College Superintendent Prof. Sudeepa Das said the patient was admitted immediately after testing positive for COVID-19 and all necessary precautionary measures have been taken.

"One COVID-19-positive patient has been admitted and kept in isolation. Her condition is stable, and she is under observation," Prof. Das told mediapersons.

He explained that the current strain of the virus is behaving like other seasonal respiratory infections and is not associated with any severe illness or a highly virulent variant. According to him, respiratory infections such as cough, cold and fever are common during the monsoon season, and COVID-19 is now presenting with similar symptoms in most cases.

Prof. Das advised people to remain cautious by following basic preventive measures, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining proper hand hygiene and seeking medical attention if symptoms persist.

He also clarified that there is no evidence of any new or dangerous COVID-19 variant in circulation and urged the public not to panic, while encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and follow health advisories issued by the authorities.
