Odisha govt assures error-free school textbooks soon amid row over printing mistakes
Bhubaneswar, July 1: Amid mounting criticism over errors in newly distributed school textbooks, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department has assured students, parents and teachers that corrected and error-free versions will be made available at the earliest.
Addressing a press conference, School and Mass Education Secretary N. Thirumala Naik said the state government has taken the issue very seriously and has initiated immediate steps to rectify the mistakes. He informed that subject experts and educationists are currently reviewing the textbooks to identify and correct all errors before revised editions are released.
Naik said the corrected versions of the textbooks will be made available within a short time. Once the revision process is completed, the updated editions will also be uploaded on the department's official website, enabling students and teachers across the state to access the error-free content easily.
The Secretary further stated that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken serious note of the matter and directed officials to ensure that such lapses do not recur in future. He said the government is committed to maintaining high standards in educational materials and will strengthen the review, editing and quality-check mechanisms before textbooks are published.
Appealing to students, parents and teachers not to panic or get confused, Naik requested them to continue using the existing textbooks until the revised editions are officially released. He added that the department is working on a war footing to complete the corrections as quickly as possible.
The assurance comes in the wake of widespread public outrage over numerous printing and factual errors found in school textbooks, triggering criticism from educationists, parents and opposition parties across Odisha.
