IMD advises fishermen not to venture into sea along Odisha coast till July 5
Bhubaneswar, July 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a strong advisory urging fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast from July 2 to July 5 due to the likelihood of squally weather and rough sea conditions.
According to the latest weather forecast, wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected to prevail over the sea during the four-day period. The IMD has warned that sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough, making fishing operations and marine activities hazardous.
In view of the adverse weather conditions, fishermen have been strictly advised to stay ashore and avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve. The weather office has also urged coastal communities and authorities to remain vigilant and closely monitor official weather updates.
The advisory comes as the southwest monsoon remains active over the Bay of Bengal, triggering widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity across Odisha. The IMD has already issued Orange and Yellow warnings for several districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty winds over the coming days.
Officials have advised fishermen, boat operators and coastal residents to exercise caution and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations and disaster management authorities. The IMD said the situation will continue to be monitored closely, and fresh advisories will be issued based on the evolving weather conditions.
