AI cameras to monitor traffic violations at 22 locations in Cuttack
Bhubaneswar, June 27: Cuttack is set to embrace smart traffic management with the installation of high-powered Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled surveillance cameras at 22 major locations across the city. The advanced system, expected to become operational within the next month, aims to improve road safety, streamline traffic enforcement, and reduce manual intervention by police personnel.
Once activated, the AI cameras will automatically detect traffic violations, capture high-resolution images with real-time date and time stamps, and generate e-challans from the central control room in Bhubaneswar. Traffic offenders will receive the challans directly via SMS, eliminating the need for police officers to manually photograph or record violations on the spot.
The cameras have been strategically installed at several busy intersections, including Madhupatna, Badambadi, Ranihat, College Square, OMP, Satichaura, Bajrakabati, Buxi Bazar, SP Office Chhak, Belview Chhak, Press Chhak, Jobra Barrage, and other prominent traffic junctions.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the technology-driven system will encourage motorists to follow traffic rules more diligently. A local biker said the introduction of AI surveillance would make drivers and riders more responsible on the roads, ultimately helping reduce accidents and improve overall traffic discipline.
Officials believe the new AI-based enforcement mechanism will make traffic management more efficient, transparent, and effective while enhancing public safety across Cuttack city.
