Young woman set ablaze in Sundargarh; police probe relationship angle
Bhubaneswar, June 27: A young woman is battling for her life after she was allegedly set on fire in a shocking incident at Jaratoli village under Santoshpur Panchayat in Bishra block of Sundargarh district late on Thursday night. The victim, identified as Anju Toppo, sustained critical burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Rourkela.
According to family members, the attack took place while Anju was asleep inside her house. They alleged that her boyfriend poured petrol into the room through a window using a pipe before setting it on fire. The family believes the alleged assault stemmed from a dispute related to their personal relationship.
Anju's father, who is a Samiti member of Santoshpur Panchayat, has lodged a formal complaint with the police, demanding strict action against the accused. Following the complaint, police personnel, along with a scientific investigation team, visited the spot and collected evidence.
Investigators are examining all possible angles behind the incident, including whether it was the result of a personal relationship dispute or if any political rivalry played a role. No official confirmation regarding the motive has been made so far.
Police said the investigation is underway and further details will emerge after questioning witnesses and analysing forensic evidence. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
