Two senior police officers hurt in NH-16 road mishap in Balasore
Bhubaneswar, June 27: Two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and their driver sustained serious injuries after an official police vehicle collided with the rear of a container truck on National Highway-16 near Nuagaon Chowk in Odisha's Balasore district on Saturday afternoon.
The injured officers have been identified as HRPS DSP Pascal Ekka and Crime DSP Nirupama Mallick, both posted in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district. The driver of the vehicle, Badal Pradhan, also suffered severe injuries in the accident and is reported to be in critical condition.
According to police sources, the officers were returning to Baripada after completing Muharram bandobast duty in neighbouring Bhadrak district when the mishap occurred. Preliminary reports indicate that the police van rammed into the rear of a moving container truck. However, the exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
Local residents rushed to the accident site and rescued the injured before shifting them to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore for treatment. The impact of the collision left the police vehicle extensively damaged.
Personnel from the Balasore Industrial Area Police Station have launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the Additional Superintendent of Police and other senior officials from Baripada reached the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured officers and review the situation.
