Thunderstorms, gusty winds to continue across Odisha: IMD
Bhubaneswar, June 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed weather forecast for Odisha, warning of widespread thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall over the next few days. Several districts have been placed under orange and yellow alerts as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
For June 28, the IMD has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and several others.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Keonjhar, Kandhamal and Koraput districts. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather conditions are expected to prevail in parts of coastal Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri and Khurda.
On June 29, the orange alert will remain in effect for several districts, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of up to 50 kmph expected to continue. Yellow warnings have also been issued for western and central Odisha districts, where wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely.
The IMD has advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety.
