Ram Temple Donation Row: Champat Rai, Anil Mishra Step Down as Trust Faces Investigation

Ayodhya, June 27: In a significant development surrounding the ongoing Ram Temple donation controversy, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra have resigned from their respective positions. Their resignations come amid an investigation into alleged irregularities involving donations collected for the construction and maintenance of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The Trust confirmed that both office-bearers tendered their resignations voluntarily, stating that the decision was taken to ensure that the ongoing probe remains impartial and transparent. The Trust said the move would help investigators carry out their work without any perception of interference or influence from senior officials.

The controversy surfaced after allegations emerged regarding the alleged misuse and mismanagement of funds donated by devotees. The claims prompted authorities to initiate an investigation, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has since been examining financial records, donation transactions, and other related documents to determine whether any financial wrongdoing took place.

Police have already arrested several individuals in connection with the case, and investigators continue to gather evidence. Officials have indicated that the probe is progressing and that all aspects of the donation management system are being scrutinized to establish accountability.

In an official statement, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust assured devotees that the temple's donation funds remain secure. It emphasized that the institution is fully cooperating with the investigation and remains committed to maintaining transparency. The Trust also appealed to devotees not to lose faith, stating that every effort is being made to safeguard public trust and ensure that those responsible for any irregularities are brought to justice.

Sources familiar with the developments said Champat Rai offered to resign on moral grounds, believing that stepping aside would reinforce the credibility of the investigation. Trustee Anil Mishra also resigned, citing similar reasons and expressing confidence that the truth would emerge through the legal process.

The resignations have sparked widespread political reactions across the country. Opposition parties have demanded a thorough and independent inquiry into the allegations and have called for greater accountability in the administration of temple funds. Some leaders have also urged the government to ensure complete transparency so that public confidence in the institution is preserved.

Meanwhile, the Trust has maintained that the alleged misconduct, if established, involves specific individuals under investigation and should not be viewed as a reflection of the institution as a whole. It reiterated that the Ram Temple project continues without disruption and that regular religious activities and construction-related work remain unaffected.

The resignation of two of the Trust's senior office-bearers marks one of the most significant administrative developments since the formation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. New appointments are expected after the investigation reaches a suitable stage.

As investigators continue to examine the evidence, authorities have assured that the law will take its course and that anyone found guilty of financial misconduct will face appropriate legal action. The outcome of the investigation is expected to play an important role in restoring public confidence in the management of one of India's most prominent religious institutions.
