BLO assaulted during electoral revision duty in Cuttack, accused arrested
Bhubaneswar, June 19: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was allegedly assaulted by an intoxicated individual in Cuttack on Friday, triggering swift police action and the arrest of the accused.
The incident took place near Dihasahi in the Shankarapur area under the Badambadi police limits while election-related revision activities were underway in the Shankarapur-Bisinagar locality. According to police sources, the BLO was travelling to perform his official duties when he was allegedly intercepted by a man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The accused reportedly abused the election official, obstructed him from carrying out his duties and physically assaulted him near Dehasahi. The attack left the BLO injured and caused disruption to the ongoing revision work in the area.
Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged at Badambadi Police Station. Acting promptly, police traced and arrested the accused. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the assault.
The injured BLO was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those attempting to obstruct or attack public servants while discharging official responsibilities.
