Bhubaneswar, June 9: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested three persons, including two women, and seized brown sugar worth approximately ₹50 lakh during a raid conducted under the Industrial Estate Police Station limits in Khordha district on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police regarding the movement and supply of narcotics in the area. Acting swiftly, a special team from the Industrial Estate Police Station launched the raid as part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” campaign aimed at eliminating drug abuse and dismantling illegal narcotics networks across the state.

Addressing the media, Parmar Smit Parshottamdas said the raid led to the seizure of around 500 grams of brown sugar, a highly addictive narcotic substance. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹50 lakh.

Police identified the arrested individuals as the supplier, receiver and an associate involved in the alleged drug trafficking network. Investigators suspect that the accused were part of a larger organised supply chain operating in and around Khordha district.

During the operation, police also recovered ₹18,000 in cash, four mobile phones and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the transportation and distribution of the contraband.

The SP said preliminary investigations have revealed possible links to a broader drug racket, prompting police to intensify efforts to trace both backward and forward linkages of the network. Authorities are examining the source of the narcotics as well as potential buyers and distributors connected to the operation.

Police further revealed that some family members linked to the accused had been arrested earlier in connection with the same drug-related case and are currently lodged in jail. Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and dismantle the entire supply chain.
