Three missing trekkers rescued from Malyagiri Hill after 22-hour search operation
Bhubaneswar, July 9: Three youths who went missing while trekking on Malyagiri Hill in Odisha were safely rescued on Thursday after an intensive 22-hour search and rescue operation carried out by the Fire Services Department.
According to reports, the youths were part of a seven-member trekking group from Keonjhar town that had set out to explore Malyagiri Hill on Wednesday. The group began its trek from the Khuludi Shiva Temple, a popular starting point for visitors to the hill.
While four members of the group managed to return safely, the remaining three lost their way amid the rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions. When they failed to return, local authorities were alerted, prompting the Fire Services Department to launch a large-scale rescue operation.
Fire Services personnel searched the forested and hilly region throughout the night despite challenging weather and difficult terrain. After nearly 22 hours of continuous efforts, the rescue team successfully traced the stranded trekkers and brought them to safety.
Officials said the youths were exhausted after spending several hours on the hill but were rescued without any major injuries. They were provided necessary assistance after being brought down from the hill.
The incident has highlighted the risks associated with trekking during the monsoon season, when slippery paths, poor visibility and changing weather conditions can make navigation difficult. Authorities have advised adventure enthusiasts to avoid venturing into remote hill areas without adequate preparation, proper guidance and information about prevailing weather conditions.
