Pramod Bhagat makes history with Gold medal win at Para Asian Games

Hangzhou, China, October 27: In a breathtaking showcase of skill and unwavering determination, the celebrated para-badminton athlete Pramod Bhagat clinched the gold medal in the men's singles SL3 category at the ongoing Para Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday.

This triumph marks an historic milestone in Pramod's career, as he completes a triumphant trifecta of gold medals, having previously secured top honors at the Paralympics and the World Championships. This exceptional victory showcases his unparalleled prowess in para-badminton.

Representing his nation for the fourth time in the Para Asian Games, Pramod's exceptional performance earned him one gold and two bronze medals across the three events he participated in.

In a gripping showdown against his formidable compatriot, Nitesh Kumar, Bhagat exhibited remarkable skills and an unyielding spirit. The match unfolded in a nail-biting fashion, with both players engaged in a neck-and-neck battle.

The first game saw Pramod narrowly defeating Nitesh with a score of 22-20. Nitesh, however, staged a fierce comeback in the second game, claiming it with a score of 21-19. The fate of the gold medal came down to the deciding game.

In the third game, Nitesh took an early lead, with Pramod trailing by nearly four points, and maintained this lead throughout the set. With Nitesh looking poised to secure the match at 18-14, Pramod orchestrated an incredible comeback, similar to his astonishing performance at the Paralympic finals. He stunned Nitesh by claiming the final game with a score of 21-19, successfully retaining his gold medal.

The final scoreline read 22-20, 18-21, and 21-19, highlighting the intensity of the contest.

Reflecting on his victory, Pramod expressed his admiration for Nitesh Kumar's outstanding performance, acknowledging that his opponent played a remarkable game that pushed him to the limit. He praised Nitesh's brilliance as a player and his ability to challenge him.

Pramod also shared his mindset during the match, stating, "Even when I was trailing, I maintained my belief that a comeback was possible, and the thought of losing never crossed my mind. I focused on one point at a time, and this approach made victory possible. I am genuinely delighted with my performance. While I would have liked to improve my bronze medals in doubles, I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support."
