Odisha Government launches drive to fill 1,183 vacancies in boards and corporations
Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Odisha government has initiated a major recruitment drive to fill long-pending vacancies across various state-run boards and corporations. The move is aimed at strengthening the functioning of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and ensuring efficient administration in key government bodies.
The Public Enterprises Department has issued an official communication regarding appointments and sought to expedite the recruitment process in state PSUs. According to government sources, a total of 1,183 vacant positions across different boards and corporations are proposed to be filled by June 30.
The recruitment initiative follows a comprehensive review undertaken by the state government. Earlier, all departments were asked to submit details regarding vacant posts in their respective boards and corporations, along with information on appointments made since the formation of the new government.
Data received from 17 departments covering 32 boards and corporations revealed that 677 appointments have been made since the present government assumed office. However, as many as 17 boards and corporations have not made a single recruitment during this period, leading to concerns over administrative efficiency and service delivery.
Several key positions, including those of chairpersons in various boards and corporations, have reportedly remained vacant for nearly two years. Recognising the need to fill these posts, the government has indicated that appointments will be made at the earliest.
Sources said the issue was also discussed during recent meetings in New Delhi attended by the Chief Minister and the state BJP president with the party’s central leadership. The government is now pushing for a time-bound and accelerated recruitment process to address vacancies and improve the functioning of state public sector institutions.
