Bhubaneswar, June 6: In a daring late-night robbery, a gang of around 12 armed miscreants allegedly looted gold and silver ornaments worth approximately ₹25 lakh along with cash from a house in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Friday night.

The incident occurred at around 9 PM at the residence of Dhaneswar Rout in Khandiapatana village under the jurisdiction of Aul police station. According to preliminary reports, the robbers entered the house through the rear entrance and confronted family members with firearms.

The armed gang allegedly held the occupants hostage and threatened them with dire consequences if they attempted to resist or alert neighbours. The robbers reportedly snatched the mobile phones of family members to prevent them from seeking help during the crime.

After gaining control of the house, the miscreants allegedly broke open an almirah locker and looted gold and silver ornaments valued at nearly ₹25 lakh. They also fled with cash amounting to ₹95,000 before escaping from the spot.

The robbery has triggered concern among local residents, who have demanded increased police patrolling and stronger security measures in the area.

On receiving information about the incident, police personnel from Aul police station rushed to the village and initiated an investigation. A scientific team and a dog squad were pressed into service to collect forensic evidence and track the movements of the suspects.

Police have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the robbers. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the gang was involved in similar crimes in the region.
