Delhi Hotel Fire Tragedy Leaves 21 Dead, Dozens Injured

New Delhi, June 3: A massive fire that broke out in a hotel-cum-restaurant building in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area claimed the lives of at least 21 people and left several others injured on Tuesday. The incident has triggered widespread concern over fire safety standards in commercial establishments across the national capital.

According to officials, the blaze erupted during the morning hours at the Flourish Stay B&B, a lodging facility operating above a restaurant. The fire spread rapidly through the building, trapping guests and staff inside. Thick smoke engulfed the premises within minutes, creating panic among occupants and making rescue efforts extremely challenging.

Emergency services rushed to the spot after receiving distress calls. Multiple fire tenders, police personnel, and disaster response teams were deployed to control the blaze and evacuate those trapped inside. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control.

Authorities stated that more than 40 people were rescued from the building and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several victims suffered severe burn injuries and smoke inhalation. Hospital officials confirmed that some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people attempted to escape the burning structure. Some occupants reportedly climbed onto balconies and window ledges seeking help. Local residents joined rescue efforts by arranging mattresses and blankets on the ground to assist those trying to flee from upper floors. Their timely intervention helped save several lives.

Investigators revealed that a number of foreign nationals were among the deceased. Many of them had reportedly come to Delhi for medical treatment and were staying at the hotel during their visit. Authorities are coordinating with embassies and consular officials to assist affected families.

While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that the blaze may have originated in the restaurant section of the building. Officials are examining various possibilities, including an electrical short circuit and a gas-cylinder-related accident. Forensic teams have been deployed to determine the precise source of the fire.

Delhi Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into possible negligence and violations of fire safety regulations. Officials are also examining whether the hotel and restaurant possessed the necessary permissions and fire safety clearances required for operation.

Reports indicate that the owner of the establishment is currently untraceable. Police teams have been conducting searches and gathering documents related to the property's licensing and compliance status. Authorities have assured strict action against those found responsible for any lapses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and for those injured in the tragedy. Several political leaders and public figures echoed similar sentiments and called for accountability.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding enforcement of fire safety norms in hotels, guest houses, and commercial buildings. As investigations continue, authorities have promised a comprehensive review of safety compliance measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
