Six arrested in Bhubaneswar hit-and-run death; love triangle angle under probe
Bhubaneswar, May 30: Bhubaneswar Police have arrested six persons in connection with the death of a youth in a hit-and-run incident in the Niladri Vihar area of the city, with investigators suspecting that the case may be linked to a personal rivalry, possibly involving a triangular love affair.
The incident took place late on Friday night near ATM Chhak in Niladri Vihar when a motorcycle carrying three youths was allegedly rammed by a Thar SUV. One of the riders died on the spot, while the two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Jagmohan Meena said the deceased was a resident of Kaipadar in Khurda district. He confirmed that six accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case and will be produced before a court.
According to preliminary investigations, the fatal incident appears to have been triggered by a dispute between two groups. Police suspect the confrontation may have stemmed from a personal relationship issue, with a possible love triangle emerging as one of the angles being examined.
Officials said the three youths were reportedly on their way to a lassi shop when an argument broke out involving the accused group, the deceased and his associates, and the shop owner. The situation allegedly escalated into a chase, during which the Thar vehicle rammed the motorcycle from behind.
Police have seized the vehicle involved in the incident and registered a murder case at Chandrasekharpur Police Station based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the role of each accused.
