Two engineering students killed, five injured in SUV-truck collision near Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, May 15: In a tragic road accident on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar late Thursday night, two engineering students lost their lives while five others sustained critical injuries after the SUV they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on Chandaka-Bhola Road.
According to reports, seven persons were travelling in the SUV when the accident took place. The collision was reportedly so severe that the front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled, trapping several occupants inside the wreckage. The impact of the crash created panic in the area, drawing local residents and passersby to the spot.
On receiving information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the accident site and launched a rescue operation. Firefighters used gas cutters and other equipment to extricate the trapped victims from the damaged vehicle after considerable effort.
Two engineering students died on the spot due to the severity of the injuries, while the remaining five passengers were rescued in critical condition and immediately shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. Hospital sources said some of the injured are battling for their lives.
Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether overspeeding or negligence led to the fatal collision.
