Drunk youth climbs mobile tower, threatens suicide in Rayagada
Bhubaneswar, May 11: Panic gripped Kalyansingpur town in Rayagada district on Monday morning after a youth allegedly climbed a mobile tower in an inebriated condition and threatened to jump, triggering a tense rescue operation.
The youth was identified as Trilochan Kashi, a resident of Kumbharsahi area under Kalyansingpur.
According to reports, Trilochan allegedly consumed alcohol before climbing the mobile tower early in the morning. As locals noticed him sitting atop the structure, they immediately gathered near the spot and urged him to come down safely. However, the youth reportedly refused to descend and threatened to end his life by jumping from the tower.
The dramatic incident created panic in the locality and led to a tense standoff that continued for nearly two hours. A large crowd gathered near the tower as residents attempted to calm him down through repeated persuasion.
After local efforts failed, police and fire services personnel were informed. A team from the fire brigade soon arrived at the spot and launched a rescue operation. Following sustained efforts, rescue personnel successfully brought the youth down safely from the tower.
Police later detained Trilochan at the Kalyansingpur police station for questioning. Officials said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
The episode caused considerable commotion in the town and briefly disrupted normal movement in the area before the situation was brought under control.
