Former OSAP Constable Climbs Mobile Tower in Dhenkanal Seeking Reinstatement
A dramatic scene unfolded in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday when a former Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) constable climbed a mobile tower demanding reinstatement in his job and financial support for his family. The incident triggered panic in the area and drew a large crowd of onlookers near the Town Police Station.
The former constable, identified as Rudra Narayan Das of Sogar village under Kamakhyanagar police limits, reportedly climbed the telecom tower in the morning hours. Witnesses said he shouted slogans and threatened to end his life if his demands were not addressed by the authorities.
According to sources, Das claimed that he had been removed from service and had been facing severe financial difficulties ever since. He also appealed to the government for monetary assistance for the treatment of his ailing mother. His protest quickly attracted attention, with locals gathering near the tower while many recorded videos of the incident on their mobile phones.
After receiving information, police officials, fire service personnel, and local administrative authorities rushed to the spot. Rescue teams immediately launched efforts to safely bring him down from the tower. Officials cordoned off the surrounding area to prevent any untoward incident and appealed to the youth to remain calm.
Senior police and administrative officers held discussions with the former constable for several hours. They assured him that his grievances would be examined and urged him not to take any extreme step. Fire service teams remained on standby with safety equipment during the operation.
The incident caused tension in the locality for a considerable period as residents watched the high-voltage drama unfold. Many locals expressed sympathy for the former constable and said unemployment and financial distress were pushing many individuals toward desperate measures. Some also urged the administration to adopt better counselling and grievance redressal mechanisms for people facing such crises.
Though officials managed the situation cautiously, the protest once again highlighted how personal and financial struggles can lead individuals to adopt dangerous methods to draw public and administrative attention. Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact reasons behind Das’s removal from service.
Meanwhile, efforts continued to convince the former constable to climb down safely while officials maintained close monitoring of the situation. Further details are awaited regarding the government’s response to his demands and any action that may follow after the incident.
