Man held for sister-in-law’s murder in Balangir
Bhubaneswar, May 5: Police have detained a man in connection with the alleged murder of his sister-in-law at Chitramunda village under Muribahal police station limits in Balangir district.
The accused has been identified as Bhojraj Sahu, while the deceased is Janaki Sahu, also known as Ranju. The incident reportedly took place on the night of May 2 and is suspected to have been driven by jealousy.
According to preliminary reports, the victim’s husband had been working as a migrant labourer in another state and had been away from home for an extended period. During this time, Bhojraj allegedly developed a relationship with Ranju. However, tensions escalated when another youth from a nearby village reportedly became close to her.
Police sources said Bhojraj grew increasingly jealous and enraged over the situation. In a fit of anger, he allegedly attacked Ranju, leading to her death. The exact circumstances of the murder are still under investigation.
Following the incident, Muribahal police detained the accused and began intensive questioning. Officials said efforts are underway to establish the sequence of events and gather evidence related to the case.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress. Police indicated that more details are likely to emerge as the interrogation continues.
