BJP revokes suspension of Mahameghabahan Aira Kharabela Swain
Bhubaneswar, May 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party has revoked the suspension of its senior leader Mahameghabahan Aira Kharabela Swain, reinstating him into the party fold.
The decision was announced on Sunday by State Disciplinary Committee Convener Sudarshan Nayak. Swain, a former Lok Sabha MP from Balasore, had earlier been suspended on charges of indiscipline.
With the withdrawal of the suspension order, the veteran leader has now been officially welcomed back into the party. Swain had represented the Balasore constituency in the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket in 1998, 1999, and 2004.
He had quit the BJP in 2009 to form his own political outfit before rejoining the party in 2019. After his return, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Kandhamal but was unsuccessful.
In the 2024 elections, Swain sought a BJP ticket from Balasore but was denied. He subsequently contested as an independent candidate, which led to his suspension from the party for alleged violation of discipline.
The revocation is being seen as a move to bring experienced leaders back into the party’s active fold ahead of future political engagements.
