Major drug bust at Bhubaneswar Airport; 6 kg marijuana seized, two held
Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: In a significant crackdown on international drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday seized 6 kg of marijuana at Biju Patnaik International Airport and detained two individuals suspected of smuggling the contraband.
Officials said the seized marijuana is estimated to be worth around Rs 6 crore in the international market. The consignment was recovered from two passengers who had arrived on flight 6E-1066 from Bangkok. Both accused, residents of Tamil Nadu, had allegedly concealed the drugs inside their luggage in an attempt to bypass airport security checks.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI officers conducted a detailed inspection of the passengers upon arrival, leading to the seizure. Preliminary findings indicate that the consignment was part of a larger smuggling operation routing narcotics into Odisha through international flights.
The detained individuals are currently being interrogated to uncover the supply chain and identify other members of the network. Authorities are also trying to determine the intended recipients of the drugs, while further investigation into the case is ongoing.
