Bhubaneswar to host 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026

Bhubaneswar, Mar 17: The 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026 will be held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, from March 18 to 21, showcasing India’s top para-athletic talent. Organised by the Paralympic Committee of India in collaboration with the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha, and the Para Sports Association of Odisha, the event reflects the state’s strong commitment to fostering inclusivity in sports.

The championship will be inaugurated at 4 pm on March 18 by Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj. According to officials, around 1,460 para-athletes from 28 states, along with teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), will compete across multiple disciplines in both morning and evening sessions.

Odisha will field 40 athletes led by national record holder Suchitra Parida, while defending champions Haryana will send the largest team. The championship will feature renowned Paralympic medallists like Mariyappan Thangavelu, Sumit Antil, and Praveen Kumar, alongside several Arjuna and international award winners.

Backed fully by the Odisha government, the event will help identify talent for upcoming global competitions, including the Asian Para Games in Japan.
