Severe LPG shortage hits capital city, consumers struggle for cooking gas

Bhubaneswar, Mar 10: Residents of the capital city are facing a severe shortage of LPG cylinders, leaving thousands of households struggling to manage their daily cooking needs. The crisis has triggered frustration among consumers, many of whom say they booked refills weeks ago but are still waiting for delivery.

According to sources, several consumers who booked LPG cylinders 20 to 25 days ago have yet to receive their refills. The delay has forced many families to look for alternative options. Some households have reportedly returned to using traditional wood-fired stoves, while others are buying gas illegally from black marketeers at inflated prices.

At the Khandagiri Lingaraj HP Gas Station, long queues of anxious customers were seen on Tuesday. Several people said they had been waiting since late at night in the hope of getting a cylinder. Consumers also alleged that home delivery services have been halted, forcing them to visit distributors or godowns to collect cylinders themselves.

Many residents complained about the inconvenience and the lack of clear information from distributors regarding when supplies will resume.

Officials said the shortage has occurred due to a supply gap from HPCL bottling plants, along with transportation issues and stock unavailability. The Odisha government has reportedly directed oil marketing companies to restore normal supply and resolve consumer grievances at the earliest.
