Forester arrested by Vigilance for possessing disproportionate assets in Kalahandi
Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Odisha Vigilance has arrested Bhagabat Bhusan Behera, a Forester posted at Bhawanipatna Forest Range in Kalahandi district, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest followed extensive searches at multiple locations linked to Behera, during which sleuths uncovered a substantial amount of unaccounted wealth allegedly amassed through corrupt practices. Among the assets detected were a newly constructed multi-storeyed building and nine high-value plots. Officials also seized around 470 grams of gold ornaments and bank deposits amounting to ₹34.08 lakh.
In addition, several vehicles were found in his possession, including two Kubota Harvester machines, four tractors, one Ashok Leyland Tipper, one BharatBenz Hyva truck, a Bolero vehicle, and a Toyota car. Investigators suspect that these movable and immovable properties were acquired through illicit means.
A case (Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 02/2026) has been registered, and Behera is scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Bhawanipatna for further legal proceedings.
