Green PUCC stickers to be provided free at all RTOs in Odisha: Minister
Bhubaneswar, Jan 3: Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Saturday announced that green Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) stickers will be issued free of cost at all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state. The clarification comes amid public queries and concerns regarding the requirement and cost of the stickers.
Speaking to the media, Minister Jena made it clear that the green PUCC stickers are not mandatory for vehicle owners and that no fee will be charged for their issuance. He added that vehicle owners themselves should be present at the RTOs while collecting the stickers to ensure proper verification and transparency in the process.
The initiative is part of the Commerce and Transport Department’s broader effort to strictly enforce motor vehicle regulations aimed at reducing air pollution. The department has been intensifying checks on vehicles, especially in urban centres and high-traffic corridors, where emissions from automobiles significantly contribute to deteriorating air quality.
Officials said the green PUCC stickers are intended to help enforcement agencies easily identify vehicles with valid pollution certificates during routine inspections. By streamlining monitoring and encouraging compliance with emission norms, the government hopes to improve air quality and promote environmentally responsible driving habits.
