Severe cold wave grips Similipal Tiger Reserve, temperature drops to 4°C
Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: The Similipal Tiger Reserve and its surrounding regions are currently in the grip of a severe cold wave, with temperatures plunging sharply and causing widespread discomfort among residents. The mercury dropped to a chilling 4 degrees Celsius at the Upper Baraha Kamuda (UBK) area, making it one of the coldest spots in the region.
The cold wave has extended to the foothill areas of Similipal, affecting blocks such as Jashipur, Thakurmunda, Karanjia, Raruan and Sukruli. Dense fog during the early morning hours, coupled with icy winds, has significantly reduced visibility and intensified the cold, disrupting normal life across these areas.
According to reports, the minimum temperature at Chahala was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius, while Gurugudia also registered 8 degrees Celsius at around 6 am. These temperature readings have been confirmed by officials of the Similipal Tiger Reserve, indicating a sharp dip compared to normal winter conditions.
The harsh weather has forced people to stay indoors during early mornings and late evenings, while daily activities have been affected. Locals, especially the elderly and children, are finding it difficult to cope with the extreme cold. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions as the cold wave is expected to persist in the coming days.
