Nandankanan Zoo to welcome 19 new animals from gujarat as part of exchange programme
Bhubaneswar, May 29: Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar is gearing up to welcome 19 new animals from Gujarat’s Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Zoological Garden in Surat as part of an inter-zoo exchange initiative. The arrival, scheduled before December 10, comes just ahead of the peak tourist season, adding fresh attractions for visitors. The animals belong to four different species, though officials have not yet disclosed the full list.
A specialized team from Nandankanan is preparing to travel to Surat to facilitate the safe transportation of the animals. The process will be carried out under strict supervision and in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), which has already granted the necessary approvals. The transfer will ensure that all animals are moved with proper care, ensuring both health and comfort during the journey.
In return, Nandankanan will send 14 animals belonging to five species to the Surat zoo as part of the exchange program aimed at promoting breeding, conservation, and genetic diversity. Zoo authorities believe the exchange will enrich the animal collection at both facilities, enhance conservation efforts, and provide visitors with an opportunity to observe a wider variety of wildlife species.
