Odisha Police demolish drug peddler’s house in Bhubaneswar under ‘Operation Prahar’

Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: Intensifying its war on narcotics, the Odisha Police on Tuesday carried out a major crackdown under Operation Prahar by demolishing the house of a notorious drug peddler in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar.
The house, located near the ID Market, belonged to Sabitri Behera, who has allegedly been running the illegal trade of brown sugar, ganja, and ganja-laced cigarettes for years. Police records show that Behera has been arrested three times for drug-related offences, with her latest arrest taking place on September 2.
“Narcotics trade in Nayapalli has been thriving due to Sabitri Behera’s activities. Today, following guidelines of Operation Prahar, her house was demolished with the support of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC),” said Satyaranjan Pradhan, Inspector-in-Charge of Nayapalli Police Station.
As part of the new enforcement strategy, the police have declared that any drug peddler arrested three or more times will face demolition of their illegal properties. A list of other offenders has already been prepared, and similar actions are expected soon.
Officials said the demolition drive is part of a broader effort to make Bhubaneswar a drug-free and safer city.
