Wheels of Puri Rath Yatra chariots to be installed in Parliament complex; devotees hail move

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Servitors and devotees of Lord Jagannath have warmly welcomed the decision to install the sacred wheels of the three Rath Yatra chariots—Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalana—in the Parliament complex in New Delhi. The move is being seen as a historic recognition of Odisha’s spiritual heritage at the heart of the nation’s democracy.
Somnath Khuntia, a servitor of the 12th-century Jagannath temple, recalled that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently visited the shrine, offered prayers, and later agreed to the temple administration’s suggestion to install the wheels in Parliament. “This is not just an honour for Odisha but also for devotees of Mahaprabhu Jagannath across the world,” Khuntia said. He further suggested that full replicas of the chariots, instead of only the wheels, would add greater grandeur and cultural representation.
Confirming the development, temple Chief Administrator Arabinda Kumar Padhee posted on X that the Speaker had graciously approved the proposal. He said the initiative would showcase Jagannath culture at the national level, similar to past practices where wheels were placed at the Odisha Assembly and state guest houses.
