Security breach at Puri Jagannath Temple as devotee attempts to climb structure

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: A fresh security breach was reported at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on Friday, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of the 12th-century shrine. According to reports, Manoj Singh, a devotee from Uttar Pradesh, attempted to climb the temple structure through the Nrusingha temple side. Before he could make significant progress, security personnel intervened and stopped him after he had climbed nearly five feet.
Singh was immediately taken into custody and shifted to the Singhadwar police station for questioning. Authorities are now probing his intentions behind the act. The incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in the temple’s security system, despite the deployment of police and Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) personnel.
Notably, this is not an isolated case. In recent weeks, multiple such breaches have been reported. A few days ago, another devotee was arrested for attempting to climb the temple structure. In a separate incident, a man was caught using spy-camera-enabled spectacles to capture unauthorized images inside the shrine.
The repeated violations have raised alarm among devotees and officials, prompting calls for stricter surveillance and enhanced security protocols within the temple premises.
