Ama Bus’ catches fire on NH-16 near Gada Khordha, passengers escaped unhurt

Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: A major mishap was narrowly averted on Thursday after an ‘Ama Bus’ suddenly caught fire while travelling on National Highway-16 near Gada Khordha Square. The bus was en route from Bhubaneswar to Khordha when flames erupted, triggering panic among the passengers.
According to eyewitnesses, smoke started billowing from the vehicle shortly after it crossed Gada Khordha. Alert passengers immediately raised the alarm, following which the driver halted the bus and ensured everyone got down safely. Thanks to the quick response, all passengers managed to escape unhurt, averting what could have been a tragic accident.
Soon after, the fire brigade team rushed to the spot upon receiving an emergency call. Firefighters swiftly doused the flames, bringing the situation under control before the fire could spread further.
Preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze, though officials are carrying out a detailed probe to confirm the cause.
The incident has once again raised concerns over vehicle maintenance and safety checks, particularly in public transport buses. Authorities have assured that safety protocols will be reviewed to prevent similar accidents in the future.
