IMD issues yellow warning for Odisha as rain, thunderstorms likely until July 25

Bhubaneswar, July 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a yellow warning for several parts of Odisha, predicting rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next few days. A trough extending from north-central Bihar to Odisha via Jharkhand at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level has triggered these weather conditions.
As per the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at many places across the state until July 25. The department has specifically warned of heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph on July 20 in districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Kandhamal.
Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and several western Odisha districts like Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Kalahandi on July 20 and 21.
The IMD has urged the public and local administrations to remain alert, as similar conditions may persist until July 25. Farmers, commuters, and fishermen are advised to exercise caution during this period.
