Odisha government lifts ban on sale of part plots, allows sale up to 5200 sq ft

Bhubaneswar, June 11: In a major policy reform, the Odisha government has lifted all restrictions on the sale of part plots, allowing individuals to sell up to 5,200 square feet of land. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced the decision on Wednesday, calling it a significant relief for landowners and a step towards boosting transparency in land transactions.
Addressing the media, Minister Pujari stated that while the sale of part plots is now permitted, certain planning norms must be followed. If land is sold through plotting, a proper layout must be created, ensuring a 9-meter-wide road access and designated areas for drains, open spaces, and parking.
The seller must submit this layout plan to the development authorities in urban areas or to the Block Development Officer (BDO) in rural areas for approval.
The Minister added that previous restrictions led to inconvenience for landowners and revenue losses for the state. Now, all restrictions on agricultural lands have been lifted. However, the curbs on residential plots (Ghara Badi) remain for now. He also hinted at upcoming reforms in apartment registration, which are in final stages of approval.
