Five police personnel suspended in Balasore for dereliction of duty

Bhubaneswar, June 7: In a firm move to uphold discipline and accountability within the police force, the Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) has suspended five police personnel — one havildar and four constables — on charges of dereliction of duty.
The action was taken after an internal review found serious lapses in their conduct. According to official sources, the suspended officers were posted at the official residence of the Balasore District Collector. Their duties included maintaining law and order, ensuring the security of the premises, and assisting in routine administrative responsibilities.
However, the officers allegedly abandoned their assigned posts to attend a colleague’s birthday celebration. Reports further suggest that they may have been involved in some inappropriate or illicit activities during the gathering, which violated the code of conduct expected from police personnel.
Taking strong exception to this breach of duty, the SP suspended the five personnel pending further inquiry. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to reinforce professionalism within the force and send a clear message that negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated in any form.
