Puri Police bust major arms smuggling racket, six arrested in special operation

Bhubaneswar, June 6: In a major crackdown on organised crime, Puri Police have busted an illegal arms smuggling and supply syndicate, arresting six individuals in a targeted operation led by the Superintendent of Police. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the gang's activities.
The arrested accused have been identified as Denga Muna alias Ramesh Parida, Babu Das alias Bhoi, Gudu Panda alias Rashmi, Kanha alias Harichandan Das, Patita Behera, and Chittaranjan Purohita. All six have prior criminal records, including charges of theft, assault, and arms-related offences.
During the raid, police recovered six country-made pistols (mousers) with magazines, 20 rounds of live ammunition, three mobile phones suspected to be used for criminal coordination, and Rs 2,100 in cash.
The operation was reportedly masterminded by Denga Muna, a notorious arms dealer and key figure in the syndicate, who had been under police surveillance for months.
The accused have been booked under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Organised Crime), the Arms Act, and other relevant laws. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and its linkages.
