Nor’wester brings much-needed relief from heatwave in Odisha, rain likely for two more days
Bhubaneswar, April 10: Odisha is expected to experience a brief respite from the prevailing heatwave as Nor’wester-induced rain is likely to continue across several parts of the state for the next two days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the change in weather is due to the formation of a low-pressure system, which has already led to a drop in temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in many regions.
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning in 25 districts today, accompanied by strong winds and scattered rainfall. Coastal Odisha is expected to witness the effects of Kalabaisakhi (Nor’wester storms) on April 11 and 12, while normal summer conditions are likely to resume from April 13.
Most parts of the state reported overcast skies and light to moderate rainfall, bringing relief from the scorching sun. Cities and towns, except Boudh, recorded daytime temperatures below 40°C. Notably, Koraput, Rayagada, Deogarh, and Kalahandi districts received significant rainfall.
Bandhugan in Koraput recorded the highest rainfall at 30 mm, followed by 27.4 mm in Bisamkatak, 21.3 mm in Kolnara, and 17.8 mm in Rayagada.
