Bhubaneswar, March 19: A tragic accident claimed the life of a college student, while two others sustained critical injuries after a tree branch fell on their moving bike. The incident occurred on Wednesday at Mahuli Ghati under Baipariguda police limits in Koraput district.

According to reports, the mishap took place when three Plus III students from Baipariguda Degree College were traveling to their college to appear for an examination. As they were passing through Mahuli Ghati, a large branch suddenly broke off and fell on them, leading to a fatal accident.

One of the students, Mahendra Nayak from Chhinchara village, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His two companions, Dharma Mali and Kamulu Harijan from Jeypore, suffered severe injuries and were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre in Baipariguda, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving information, firefighters from Baipariguda reached the scene and cleared the road by removing the fallen branch. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine if adverse weather conditions or other factors contributed to the accident.
