Six more KIIT officials appear before inquiry panel

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: As the investigation into the tragic death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at KIIT University intensifies, six more university officials appeared before the high-level fact-finding committee on Thursday.
Among those who recorded their statements at the State Guest House in Bhubaneswar at 10:30 AM were Chief Proctor PK Pattnaik, Senior Hostel Superintendent Sanhita Mishra, and Assistant Director Smarika Pati. Additionally, IC head Ipsita Satapathy, administrative officer Sidharth Ray, and another staff member also deposed before the panel.
The Odisha Higher Education Department had earlier issued notices to these officials on Tuesday, instructing them to appear before the inquiry committee. This follows the questioning of KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta for over two and a half hours. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and two suspended female staff members have also been interrogated.
Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student, was found dead in her hostel room on February 16. Allegations of harassment and blackmailing by her ex-boyfriend have emerged as possible causes behind her suspected suicide, prompting a thorough investigation by the authorities.
