Odisha Government to appoint over 5,000 doctors and dentists to fill vacancies

Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: The Odisha government is set to appoint 5,248 MBBS doctors and 126 dentists this year to address the existing vacancies in the state’s healthcare system, as announced by Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling during the Assembly session on Monday. The Odisha Public Service Commission has been tasked with overseeing the recruitment process to ensure timely filling of these critical posts.
In addition to staffing, the minister highlighted plans to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the state. Day care centers and chemotherapy facilities will be established in all district headquarters hospitals (DHH) to improve patient care and accessibility to essential treatments.
Moreover, the government is proposing the opening of satellite health centers in several districts, including Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Jajpur, and Boudh. These centers will feature ten observation beds each and provide 24-hour ambulance services to transport patients to district headquarters when necessary.
Dr. Mahaling emphasized that these initiatives aim to provide comprehensive primary health services by utilizing existing infrastructure, ultimately improving healthcare delivery in Odisha.
