Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: A junior engineer from Narsinghpur block, identified as Ajay Samal, was found dead in his government quarters on Saturday, with his body hanging from a ceiling fan. The police have recovered the body and initiated a detailed investigation.

Samal, a resident of Sanabarasingha village in Baramba block, had been serving at Narsinghpur for three years, overseeing MGNREGA projects in Sagar, Alara, and Kanjipada panchayats. According to his neighbor Binay Behera, Samal was under significant mental stress following a complaint lodged with the District Collector alleging irregularities in MGNREGA work in Sagar panchayat.

After news of his death spread, local authorities, including the police, block administration, tehsildar, and Baramba MLA Bijaya Kumar Dalabehera, rushed to the spot. MLA Dalabehera has directed the police to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
While the cause of death is suspected to be suicide, the exact circumstances remain unclear. A scientific team is expected to analyze the scene to gather further evidence.
