Elephant carcass found in Narasinghpur, investigation underway

Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: A carcass of an elephant, with its tusks removed, was discovered in the Khesara forest range under Narasinghpur, raising concerns over wildlife protection and poaching activities in the area. According to reports, the elephant is believed to have been killed about a week ago. The carcass was located following a tip-off from local forest guards who reported suspicious activity in the region.
Upon receiving the alert, forest officials, including Athagarh DFO SCF Manoj Patra and Bhubaneswar Western Range Officer Pradip Kumar Nayak, quickly rushed to the scene to investigate. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, samples have been collected from the carcass and sent to the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) laboratory in Bhubaneswar for further examination. The results from the laboratory will provide insights into the cause of death.
The elephant, estimated to be between 20 to 25 years old, has prompted forest officials to detain one individual for questioning as part of the investigation into this tragic incident.
