Aadhaar update woes for Subhadra Yojana spark highway blockade in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: Frustrated by long queues at centers for updating Aadhaar details required for the Subhadra Yojana, angry locals blocked National Highway-57 near Bhograi in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday.
Early Thursday morning, large crowds gathered at the Bhograi post office to update their Aadhaar details, particularly phone numbers. Some women in the queues mentioned that they had been waiting since Wednesday night. One woman shared, "We've been standing in line for four days, only to be told to come back the next day."
Many women were in line to correct various errors in their Aadhaar cards, such as date of birth, surname, and phone numbers, fearing that submitting incorrect details might result in their claims for benefits being rejected.
The situation has worsened as some centers are processing Aadhaar corrections for only 50 people per day.
Police were seen struggling to calm the agitated women at various centers across the state. The lack of facilities at panchayats has exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for both the beneficiaries and the employees handling the updates.
