Newly-wed woman allegedly killed by in-laws over dowry demand in Balasore

Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: A newly-wed woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry demands at Tentala village under Khaira police limits in Balasore district on Monday night, highlighting the persistent issue of dowry harassment in society.
Sources reveal that Laxmipriya Sethi, daughter of Sudama Sethi from Sarapur village, married Jagannath Das of Tentala village in a Hindu ceremony on June 14. However, soon after the marriage, Jagannath and his mother began pressuring Laxmipriya to bring a refrigerator from her family. When her family failed to meet this demand, Laxmipriya was reportedly subjected to continuous torture. Unable to bear the harassment, she allegedly took her own life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.
The incident has sparked outrage in the village, with Laxmipriya’s family accusing Jagannath and his mother of murdering her for dowry. They are demanding the immediate arrest of Jagannath and his family members, who fled the scene after the incident came to light.
