Odisha govt scraps NUA scheme, announces new financial aid for UG and PG students

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: The Odisha government has announced its decision to discontinue the Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scheme, which was initiated by the previous BJD government. In its place, the BJP-led administration under Chief Minister Mohan Majhi plans to introduce a new initiative called the ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’ scheme. This new scheme aims to provide financial aid to undergraduate and postgraduate students across the state.
During the Odisha Assembly session on Friday, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj stated that the ‘Nua O’ scheme has not been included in the 2024-25 annual Budget. He emphasized that the current government is in the process of finalizing the details of the new financial assistance program, which will be rolled out soon.
Minister Suraj also criticized the previous BJD government, alleging that it spent approximately Rs 95 crore on cultural events in colleges under the ‘Nua O’ scheme, out of a total allocation of Rs 300 crore.
