IMD forecasts intense rainfall for Odisha, disruptions expected

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning for several districts in Odisha over the next two days.
According to the latest IMD forecast, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are highly likely at one or two locations in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.
For August 21, IMD forecasts heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) at one or two places in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.
On August 22 and August 23, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain/thundershowers at many locations in North Odisha and at a few places in South Odisha.
After a two-day gap, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is expected to affect one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on August 24, according to the regional weather office.
The IMD notes that the state has been experiencing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in recent days, causing disruptions to daily life and transportation. However, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to significantly reduce after August 24.
