Tiger and leopard sightings cause panic in Ganjam and Cuttack districts
Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: A tiger has been sighted in the Hirapalli forest under Ganjam district’s Buguda Range, causing fear among the local residents. The tiger allegedly attacked and killed a cow, leaving the villagers in a state of panic.
Reports indicate that the cow was grazing in the jungle when the tiger attacked it. A cow grazer named Debraj Nayak witnessed the incident and alerted the villagers, who subsequently found the cow’s carcass and tiger pugmarks in the forest.
Upon receiving the information, forest department officials, including the Buguda and Odagaon Range officers, visited the location to assess the situation. The carcass of the cow has been sent for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. However, the forest department has not yet confirmed whether the attack was carried out by a tiger or another animal.
In a separate incident, a leopard has been spotted in the jungles near Jayapur and Gopapur villages in Baranga, Cuttack district, adding to the fear among locals. According to reports, the leopard was first seen by some residents of Jayapur village around 9 pm on Sunday. It was later spotted in Gopapur village. A photo of the leopard has since gone viral on social media.
