Radharani Panda Named BJP Candidate For Brajrajnagar Bypoll

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced Radharani Panda as its candidate for the bypoll to Brajrajnagar Assembly Constituency in Jharsuguda district. The Central Election Committee of the BJP has decided to nominate Panda’s name for the ensuing bypoll to the Assembly seat, the party high command said in a notice.
Former Brajrajnagar MLA Radharani Panda was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the constituency in 2014 polls. She had defeated BJD candidate Anup Kumar Sai in the election to emerge victorious. However, Panda lost to BJD’s Kishore Kumar Mohanty in the 2019 polls.
Notably, the bypoll to the Assembly seat necessitated following the demise of sitting BJD MLA from Brajrajnagar and former Speaker Kishore Kumar Mohanty on December 30, 2021 due to cardiac arrest. The by-elections to the Brajrajnagar Assembly seat will be held on May 31. The counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled for June 3.
Earlier Congress party had announced to field senior leader and former Odisha Assembly Speaker Kishore Chandra Patel for the by poll. While the Ruling BJD has not announced their candidate till now.
