Fatal road incident in Balangir claims lives of couple
Bhubaneswar, July 3: In a tragic incident, a couple was fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle near Patrapali Chowk in Balangir district's Muribahal police station area on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Gambhir Rana and Gita Rana from Patrapali village, were hit by a motorist while on their way to a paddy field in Ghantabahali village via the national highway.
The collision also resulted in the death of one of the two buffaloes accompanying the couple.
Upon hearing about the incident, angered villagers apprehended the vehicle, leading to a blockade of the National Highway. They demanded compensation for the family of the deceased couple.
Local police officials, along with the Tahasildar of Muribahal acting as magistrate, arrived at the scene to calm the villagers and manage the situation.
